Timeraiser / Volunteer for Art

As an emerging artist I have always tried to find places that would show and sell my work.  A few years ago I met some nice people at Framework who organize an event called Timeraiser.  After hearing what they had to say I was delighted.  Finally something in the community that helps artists, non-profit organizations and individuals.  In the words of Charlie Sheen… everyone is “WINNING!”

Nicole and Carmen from Timeraiser at the Lilac Festival. They are showcasing art that will be available for auction June 16th at Flames Central.

How does this whole thing work?  We asked a few questions and Amanda Grainger-Munday, Manager, Communications/Social Media – Timeraiser and Framework was kind enough to answer:

What does Timeraiser hope to achieve?

For the 6th Calgary Timeraiser, our goal is to raise 6500 volunteer hours for the community.  Our mission is to connect people to causes, and causes to people.  The Timeraiser connects young professionals looking to get involved with non-profit organizations looking for skilled volunteers.

How does Timeraiser work?

The Timeraiser is part volunteer fair, part silent art auction and part night on the town.  Throughout the evening meet with different agencies and match your skills to their needs.  Once you have made your matches, you are eligible to bid on artwork.
The big twist is rather than bid money, you bid volunteer hours.  If you have the winning bid you have 12 months to complete your pledge before bringing the artwork home as a reminder of your goodwill.

What cities are currently having Timeraiser events?  Who can participate?  And how?

The Timeraiser is currently in 8 Canadian cities: Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, Toronto, Hamilton, London & Ottawa.
Anyone (over the age of 19) can attend the event – tickets are $20 and we ask that everyone who attends pledges 20 volunteer hours to the community.

How is Framework connected to Timeraiser?  And what other projects is Framework involved in?

Framework is the non-profit organization that runs the Timeraiser program. We are a registered Canadian non-profit organization.
Framework is also hosting an exciting new technology research project called Platformation. Helping non-profits to use technology to better support their mission related activities.
