July Desktop Wallpaper / Island Life – Happy Canada Day

Happy Canada Day everyone!  To celebrate Canada’s beauty in the Rocky Mountains, this month’s free desktop wallpaper is an image I created out in Yoho National Park.

I arrived at the location I scouted days before wanting to capture the iconic first bit of golden light on the mountain tops.  I waited and waited finally realizing that if I were to create something unique I had to keep looking.  I left my gear on the trail.  At 4am there is no one around to mess with your equipment.  I hiked around and about 200m down the trail I saw what I had been looking for.  This was something to write home about.  I saw the reflection of the mountain tops and what seemed to be a mini island oasis with the still water.  I found the best of both worlds so I quickly hiked back to grab my gear.  I came back just in time to capture this moment.  It lasted only for a few seconds and then it was gone.  I was grateful to be able to capture a mini part of Island Life.

For those of you who do not know, parts of my province of Alberta flooded last week.  This disaster has devastated whole communities, property and even lives.  For the whole month of July I am donating 25% of all my print sales* (limited edition, artist proof editions and posters) to the Canadian Red Cross Alberta Floods 2013.
