Portrait of My Grandmother

My 93 year old grandmother Isidra Toledo (or “Apo” as we like to call her) is a very special lady to me.   I am who I am today because of her.  Every time I see her I’m reminded of the times when she would babysit me while my parents were at work.  I must have been three or four at the time because I wasn’t in school yet.  We would watch daytime TV all day long.  Cooking shows were our favourite!  Once in awhile she’d let me pretend to cook by taking leaves off my mom’s house plants and get me to chop them up with a plastic knife and a cutting board.  Don’t worry… it didn’t go into dinner that evening.  It was all for show, but I didn’t care.  I’m sure she didn’t realize the consequences of her actions.  She’s the reason why I love to cook so much.  I am who I am today because of her.

When I see these photos I am instantly transported back to moments of the past.  This is the power of photography.
