OK, so September’s free wallpaper download isn’t going to make headlines like Apple announcing the iPhone 5 today. But because August came and left in a blink of an eye let’s hang on to summer with this month’s wallpaper. In a few weeks, at the end of this month we’ll be wondering where all the green leaves went.
This was taken in Bermuda when Aiofe and I went in May 2012. It’s of a mangrove tree that is growing from the water of underground caves. If you ever get a chance to visit underground caves take it. It’s an amazing experience.
For this shot I was mainly wanting to test out my new camera body (at the time), the Nikon D800, and its ability to capture a full tonal range (i.e. dark areas of the trees in contrast with the very bright sky). I also wanted to put my new wide angle lens, the Nikon 16-35mm f4.0 to the test, and its VR (Vibration Reduction) abilities. I shot this at 1/40 sec @ f4.0 (ISO 100). Usually with a scenario like this you’d want to use a tripod but the Nikon 16-35mm VR features allowed me to shoot this handheld at 1/40sec. A great wide angle lens for sure!
