My Fujifilm X30 Wish List
In November, 2011 I purchased a highly anticipated camera. The Fujifilm X10, Fuji’s first entry into the enthusiast compact (point and shoot) camera segment.
Why purchase a point and shoot when you have full DSLR kit, you may ask? Simply, convenience. I don’t want to be bringing around a backpack all the time in order to carry my DSLR, lenses, batteries, etc. Even if I stripped my DSLR down to the bare essentials, body & lens, it would still be quite a hassle to carry around the city everyday.
The reasons I chose the Fujifilm X10 over the more popular Canon Powershot G1 X or the Nikon Coolpix P7700 at the time (2012):
- Full manual zoom lens. I liked the feel of the zoom in and zoom out barrel.
- Bigger optical viewfinder. In bright conditions and LCD screen can be annoying to compose your shot with.
- Cool factor. Yes, I admit, I also gave in to its retro styling. Even to this day I get asked if it’s an old film camera.
- Control ring for thumb navigation, scrolling, etc.
- Fast f2.0-2.8 lens
The rumors of release dates and features are flying all around the internet. My blog post isn’t intended to predict or tell you what will be on the X30. Nor do I know anything about this new camera. This post is a request to Fuji only:
- Keep everything that made the X10 & X20 great.
- Improve low light performance.
- Improve focusing (especially in low light, the X10 & x20 were quite terrible).
- Needs a longer lasting battery.
- Update the viewfinder, even make it an EVF (electronic viewfinder) so you can display information in the viewfinder.
- Make the LCD screen tilt. Not an articulating one please, those are really annoying.
- External microphone input for video.
- Have a stealthy version with no logos or badges (for all the street photographers out there).
There are rumours that the Fujifilm X30 announcement will be tomorrow (Tuesday, August 26th, 2014). More rumours suggest the release date is scheduled for September 2014. As long as Fuji decided to keep the essence of the X10 intact it’s going to be an early Christmas for me.
