2017 Capture Photography Festival / Vancouver Photo Book Fair

Capture Photography Festival

For the entire month of April, photographic art from local and international photo-based artists will be on display in Vancouver, BC.  The fourth annual Capture Photography Festival proves to be a very exciting show of more than 100 photography exhibitions in 70 galleries, public art and photo events.  In the very short time frame of five years, the Capture Photography Festival has grown to arguably the best photography festival in Western Canada.  Their website is clean, organized and gives you a tool to create your own festival schedule (something a multi-day, multi-location festival needs to have).  The festival’s programming is diverse with exhibits, workshops, talks, lectures, tours, public art and more.

Capture Photography Festival’s printed guide serves as a schedule and record of the festival events.  The photographs in the guide gives people new to the event a way to find work that interests them.  I’ve attended and exhibited at the Contact Photography Festival in Toronto a few years ago and I’d say that every festival should aspire to, or at the very least take cues from Contact in Toronto; Vancouver’s photography festival has done just that.

During the festival the Vancouver Photo Book Fair will be held.  The book fair, free and open to the public is Vancouver’s first art book fair dedicated to photo-based art.  The fair occurs the weekend of April 22nd and  includes works from local and international artists and publishers.
